Water line trouble tends to show up in small ways first: pressure that drops, water that runs brown after sitting, a soft wet patch in the yard, or a water bill that climbs with no change in use. By the time the pipe fails, it is usually buried under a driveway, lawn, or walkway. At US Trenchless, we replace the water line that feeds your home using trenchless methods, so the pipe gets replaced without trenching up everything above it. If your water line is showing any of these signs, call 877-916-7473 or request service online.

Signs Your Water Line Needs Replacement
- Water pressure that has dropped throughout the house, not at a single fixture
- Brown, rusty, or discolored water, especially after the water has sat unused
- A water meter that keeps moving when every fixture is off
- Wet, soft, or sunken ground between the meter and the house
- Repeated leaks or repairs on the same older line
Not every one of these means the whole line has to go. A single leak can sometimes be fixed with a spot repair, and our leak detection services can pinpoint where water is escaping before anything is dug up.
Trenchless Water Line Replacement
Instead of trenching the full length of the line, we dig two small access holes, one where the line begins and one where it ends. A new pipe is pulled into the path of the old one while a tool bursts the old pipe apart, so the new line replaces it in place. This is the same approach we use for trenchless pipe bursting on sewer lines, adapted for pressurized water pipe.
That means far less damage to lawns, driveways, and landscaping than a traditional dig. Some lines can’t be bursted, and in those cases a trench may still be needed. We’ll tell you which applies when we look at your property.
Water Line Replacement vs. Sewer Line Replacement
These are two different lines with different problems. The water line brings clean water into your home under pressure, so its trouble signs are low pressure, discolored water, and leaks. The sewer line carries waste out by gravity, so its trouble signs are slow drains, backups, and odors. If your symptoms are on the drain side, see our sewer line replacement page. If they show up when you turn on a tap, you’re in the right place.

Water Line Replacement FAQs: Pressure, Ownership, and Water Quality
Why is the water pressure low in my whole house?
Low pressure at every fixture, not just one, often points to a problem upstream, such as a corroded or partly blocked supply line, a leak, or a failing pressure regulator. We check the line and the regulator so you replace only what is actually failing.
Who is responsible for the water line from the street to my house?
In general, the water provider maintains the line up to the meter, and the property owner is responsible for the pipe from the meter to the house. Providers in the Sacramento area differ, so confirm where your provider’s responsibility ends before work starts. We can show you where on the line the problem is.
Will my water be shut off during a water line replacement?
Yes, water to the house is off while the old line is swapped for the new one. We’ll explain the timing at the estimate so you can plan around it.
Will a new water line fix rusty or discolored water?
If the discoloration comes from the corroded service line, a new line removes that source. Rust from inside the house’s own pipes or from the water provider’s system would not be fixed by replacing the line, which is why we find the source first.
